A child support case is opened by the parent receiving support or or custodial party by completing an application. (You can request by phone a packet be sent to you by regular mail or you can come by the office to obtain an application packet

If you have a divorce or custody or visitation rights procedure, your child support hearings are likely to be held in the main courthouse building of the Superior Court of California for Imperial County, located at:

    Quick Tips    

Quick Tips for Court

  • There is security screening when entering the building. Don’t bring weapons or items generally considered dangerous.
  • DON’T BE LATE: If you miss roll call, your hearing may proceed without you or be delayed.
  • Dress appropriately, we recommend business attire.
  • We can arrange for a Spanish interpreter if needed.
  • It’s best not to bring children to the hearing.
  • You may bring additional documents you want presented at your hearing. However, you are encouraged to provide the Department of Child Support Services with your most recent/updated income and timeshare information prior to your court hearing in order to allow the Department of Child Support Services time to review your case.
    What to Expect at Court?    

What to Expect at Court?

  • Court will start session with Roll Call to find out who is present. Simple cases are sometimes resolved at this point.
  • After Roll Call, DCSS staff may speak with parties (you) privately to discuss your case.
  • If the parties reach an agreement, our staff may prepare a legal Stipulation. Once signed by all parties, the hearing may be dismissed.
  • If the parties cannot reach an agreement, they will have a hearing and a chance to speak with the commissioner.
  • Court can sometimes last all day. Please be prepared to be in court until the end of the day.
